Meritare is an attractive new early-season plum from Sweden.

History

Meritare is considered too light-cropping by many commercial growers, but for the gardener this is a good thing - lighter crops often mean better flavour, and larger fruit size.

Although it can in some ways be considered an early Victoria-style plum, it is closely related to the well-known Swedish Opal plum. It inherits that variety's early ripening and robust health and cold-hardiness.
