History

Prunus Horinji was brought to western gardens at the start of the 20th century, a period when interest in Japanese flowering cherry trees was fasionable. It is associated with a temple of the same name in Kyoto, and is possibly a very old variety, but it does not seem to have been widely grown in Japan.
